Finance Sector Description
Director of Finance and Development
- Responsible for long range planning and developing budgets.
- Has seat on the Governing Council and guides development and oversight of spending policies and procedures.
- Negotiates loans, maintains oversight of relations with financial institutions regarding checking accounts, savings accounts and other financial instruments, to insure the best possible use of these in the interest of the Center’s welfare.
- Meets and coordinates regularly with Bursar(s), keeping them advised on current financial policies and listening to and reporting back to the Governing Council their concerns for desirable changes in financial procedures.
- Is an ex-officio member of the Dana group, providing information and financial policy advice.
- Is a liaison with Financial Officers represented on the Sakyong's Council, Shambhala International and other Centers.
Development and Fundraising - Dana Group
- Define and oversee membership development through educating members about opportunities for giving and establishing structures for annual pledge drives, in collaboration with the Membership Committee.
- Plans/executes additional fundraising activities inside and outside of the mandala.
- Reports to the Governing Council.
Bursar(s)
- Perform accounting and book keeping functions of collection and disbursements.
- Reports to Finance Director.
- Provides financial statements on regular basis to Center Director and Finance Director.
- Assists Development and Fundraising by providing information and recordkeeping as needed.
- Assists members and various departments with day-to-day needs and financial concerns.
- Can oversee execution of financial policies when clearly defined by the Governing Council, and so directed by the Finance Director, i.e., spending limits, program budget guidelines or report such to the Finance Chair.
