Welcome to the Shambhala Center of Chicago!
Shambhala is a vision of an enlightened society that expresses the dignity of human experience and joins spiritual inspiration with practicality. It is a path of warriorship, or bravery, that is open to any human being who seeks a genuine and fearless existence.
Shambhala is also a worldwide network of meditation centers providing public meditation, meditation instruction, classes, programs and training in advanced contemplative practices that was founded by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, a master of the Shambhala and Tibetan Buddhist meditation traditions, and is now directed by the Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.
There are three Gates to Shambhala, paths by which we can begin to awaken to this world: Buddhist practice, Shambhala Training, and contemplative arts.
Throughout the year the center hosts many special events, including seminars by invited teachers, introductory classes in the Buddhist tradition, and a continuing program of Shambhala Training. If you are interested in any of these events please contact us by phone, mail, or
; we can also put you on our US- and e- mail lists if you like. (You can also sign up for our weekly emails using the link in the left column of this page.)
We invite you to explore our programs designed to help people of all religions & traditions discover their inherent sanity, gentleness and humor.
The Chicago Shambhala Center is located on the northeast side of Chicago close to Lake Michigan. Street parking is available, as well as limited on-site parking.
